  Barbeque season is in full swing as we indulge in our favorite charred meat. But we all know that charring meats produces chemicals associated with the increase of colon, pancreatic and prostate cancers. Research in the Journal of Agricultural and food chemistry now shows that the beer you’re enjoying while barbequing may be used to marinate your meats to prevent the formation of these harmful chemicals.  The effect comes from the barley in the beer that contains antioxidants more powerful than ones found in citrus or soy. Black beer, pilsner and non alcoholic beers were tested with black beer having the best results and reducing the dangerous chemicals by half as well as acting as a barrier from the flames touching the meat. Ales have more antioxidants than lager beers which include porters, stouts, dark ales and cream ales.
