How Healthy is the Keto Diet?

  • The Keno diet is everywhere.  People swear that this high fat, low carb diet helps in weight loss, manages type 2 diabetes and may even increase your lifespan.
  • This is the kissing cousin of the Atkins diet where the body is put into a state where it can’t convert carbohydrates into glucose and it burns fat instead.
  • Forget about fruit, many vegetables, sugar and white carbs like rice, pasta or bread.
  • Expect a rapid weight loss guaranteed, if you stick to it 100%.
  • Think of this as a bacon and butter diet!  High cholesterol may result if you’re genetically predisposed and vitamin deficiencies due to the lack of vegetables.  For a lifetime diet, I’d say “fuhgeddaboudit”!
  • What’s wrong with enjoying fruit, veggies, whole grains, healthy fats and lean protein in moderation and limiting processed foods, sugar and simple carbs.
